Elway - DREAM TOUR

Elway - DREAM TOUR

In this Dream Tour segment, the punk band, Elway, reveals who they would want on their ultimate tour lineup. You can check out their picks below:

For most people who have toured in a punk band, generally the longer you’ve spent doing it, the more routine-driven and streamlined your tour experiences become. You stay in hotels and rest up after shows, trading in the unhinged nonstop party of your younger years for the common sense of not burning the candle at both ends and wringing your body out for those last few drops of adrenaline. When touring familiar cities in the United States, that’s sort of the program with Elway. When given the opportunity to travel to unfamiliar places to share our music, that’s when you’ll catch us still up at 6 AM, a bottle of aguardiente in each hand, trying to know the very soul of every other drunk idiot left awake in the city.

So, the dream tour would have to be somewhere beyond the typical frontier for punk bands, meaning not in the USA, Canada, the UK, or Europe. How about South America? Ooh! Or China. Yes, China is my final answer. I’d like to do a six-week tour of gigantic megacities, small villages, and everything in between. The caveat would have to be that we play a show or two per city, then have a day or two off to do something touristy. I’ve always found that the best way to visit a place is to play shows there, because you wind up hanging out in the places you’d want to wind up anyhow, without having to search very hard for it. And having built-in days off is a luxury part-timers like Elway don’t really have, so it’s a dream to imagine time to hang out or sop up a little of the local culture. I think we could get into all the best trouble if we could tour China with this cadence.

As for our tour mates? Let’s go with Bad Religion, Propagandhi, The Lawrence Arms, a reunited Fugazi, and Sam Russo. Bad Religion because they are one of the last spaces on our punk band bingo cards to play with and near to my heart since I was a child. Propagandhi because they are, regardless of whether your favorite band, the best band that has ever existed. The Lawrence Arms because I want to see music I love at all these hypothetical shows and it would be fun to hang with those dudes in a truly alien scenario to see how variably comfortable or uncomfortable it would make each of them. Fugazi because it would be hilarious if they only got back together to play China with us. And Sam Russo, because we’ve played more shows with him than any other band, and it just doesn’t feel right hopping into a van without him.

Keep up with Elway on Instagram and X.
