In this Preshow Rituals segment, the alternative/electronic artist, BILETSKA, reveals what she does before taking the stage. You can check out the rituals below:
I have a strict ritual I follow before every show. It starts with clearing my entire day—no errands, no distractions, nothing that might disrupt my state of mind. My focus has to be singular, sharp, and undisturbed. The hours leading up to the performance are very important to me; they set the tone for the energy I’ll bring to the stage. It’s not about superstition, but about creating space to mentally and emotionally align myself. I make sure everything is in its place before I even think about stepping into the spotlight.
About three to four hours before the show, I stop eating. There’s something about feeling light that helps me move freely and keeps my nerves in check. To prepare my voice, I rely on Brett Manning vocal exercises—they’re my go-to warm-ups. I’ll take slow, deliberate breaths, letting the air fill my lungs and calm my mind. A small shot of tequila or vodka follows, not for the buzz but to loosen any last bit of tension in my body.
When it’s time to step on stage, there’s a shift in my focus. The hours of preparation fade into the background, and I feel ready to give it my all. The crowd’s energy is always a welcome boost, and it helps me stay in the moment. Everything feels simple—it’s just me, the music, and the shared experience with the audience.
