Tally Spear - FIRST CONCERT EVER

Tally Spear - FIRST CONCERT EVER

In this First Concert Ever segment, the pop rock artist, Tally Spear, talks about the story of her first experience with live music. You can check out the story below:

My first concert memory would probably be Hilary Duff in London. My dad took me, it was just the two of us. I was a super young kid, and I was in awe… I remember seeing Hilary Duff on stage in her low-waisted flared trousers, cropped jacket, and wireless microphone, and thinking she was an absolute god. Like something from out of this world, capable of anything, yet totally out of reach. It’s fascinating how artists and musicians wield this power over others, through music, performance, and carefully crafted branding.

I had all of Hilary Duff’s albums on CD and have such vivid memories of the little booklets that sat in the front cover of the clear plastic casing. You know, how you could take it out of the case and read through the lyrics of each song in the album, with each page displaying a host of behind-the-scenes photos from the cover art shoot. The booklets were always tatty and fraying at the edges with the amount of times I’d gone through them.

I was very lucky to have a dad who was always excited to take me to concerts and introduce me to the wonder of music. Having worked in the music business since he was young, it was his pride and joy to share his love of it all with me. I remember he also got me in, somehow, to Miley Cyrus’s intimate GMTV live performance of “7 Things,” where I stood next to Miley’s mum and sister in the small live audience at the Royal Festival Hall, one early October morning. I had this feeling of complete admiration. Artists like Miley and Hilary Duff represented a sort of dream-like future I had of someday growing up and becoming like them, singing my own music and showing up in the world with such confidence and flair. It’s funny the level of detail you remember about things. Miley was wearing white nail polish at that GMTV performance. I clocked it when she was sat close to me during a short interview after the performance (yes, I definitely started wearing white nail polish immediately after). I’ll always be grateful to my dad for being my biggest supporter, and for believing from day one that I too belonged on the stage singing my own songs. My memories of going to shows with him will forever be in my heart.
