Hear me out. A traveling music festival that sets up in each city for a weekend. It’s dog friendly during the day. There’s a shuttle service and camping for each night, but all sets wrap up by 10pm. We all sleep soundly because our bodies hurt and our minds are tired, but we pursue joy nonetheless. On Sunday morning, there is brunch and the food is free. It’s not that good, but it’s free and that’s not what music festivals are about anyway.
Some headliners would include:
Missy Higgins: This Australian singer-songwriter turned pop powerhouse made me fall in love with songwriting, so of course she’s headlining the festival. And even though it’s an old record, I’ll cross my fingers each night that she’ll play my favorites from “On a Clear Night.”
Dawes: Their drifty, dreamy guitars and cutting lyrics make for a perfect twilight act. They end every set with “When the Tequila Runs Out” and we all drink champagne together.
Bon Iver: And if he could bring along The Staves so they can recreate this magical rendition of “Heavenly Father” that they performed at the Sydney Opera House, that’d be great. We’d pay extra.
Beyoncé: And she’ll play LEMONADE all the way through so I can absolutely lose my shit to “Sandcastles” every night.
But most importantly, 50% of the lineup would be made up of local and regional acts, big and small. Local acts on festival lineups. Always.
