Crazy tour story! Okay, so this makes me laugh and feel very grateful every time I tell it. Back on my first ever tour when I was opening for Em Beihold a few years ago, I had flown from NYC (where I was living at the time) via Alaska Airlines to San Francisco. The tour was going really well, and we had played a bunch of shows and were in Seattle, and I was meant to drive up through the Canadian border to Vancouver to play a show that evening.
I was making sure I had everything I needed to cross through the border, when I realized I had not seen my passport for days. I started to frantically search for it. A few moments later, I remembered I had gotten an email from Alaska Airlines a couple days before stating, “We’ve found a lost item of yours.” My heart sunk. To be honest, I thought the email was spam, so I ignored it. I put two and two together and realized that they must have found my passport, but the issue was that it was left in San Francisco, which was over 12 hours away by car! How the hell was I going to get through the border without a passport? I wasn’t going to be able to play the show in Vancouver that night! I started rehearsing in my head how I was going to break the news to Em’s team and how lame I would look for being so disorganized.
I found the email in my inbox from Alaska Airlines and called the number provided to me. The operator answered and confirmed they had found my passport in San Francisco in the pocket on the back of the seat in front of me on the airplane. I asked them how long it would take to get to me if they sent it express and they said 24-48 hours. I was gutted. The operator was like “Yeah, where are you now? It also unfortunately isn’t even in San Francisco anymore, it’s in our lost item center in Seattle.” My hands started to shake with excitement. I was like “Wait! I’m in Seattle!” She gave me the address of the warehouse for lost items and I put it into my GPS and it was literally a 12 minute drive from where I was. I went and picked up my passport immediately and went straight to Vancouver, and got there completely on time! My music director Alan who tours all the time tells me that this is one of the craziest things he’s ever experienced and I must be the luckiest girl in the world.
